Welcome to May! Okay, so May's halfway done. That just gives me an excuse to talk about June's upcoming Party!! June 20th, at our secret sub-urban location. The theme this month is: Pajama Party!!

Wear your comfy PJs, your sexy nighties, or your birthday suit if that's what you sleep in. Bring your favorite pillow to sit on, or even pillow fight with!

'Course, if you can't wait to get your hands on your bottom 'till then, you can always come by Our Kommon Bond's Rope meeting on Saturday May 23rd at 6:00 p.m. I'll be there for sure!

This month's newsletter kind of has a theme, you'll notice. We celebrate our gay/ bi/ TG/ TS friends this month. Our world would be MUCH less colorful and wonderful without you in it!

New Hampshire soon to be sixth state legalizing gay marriage

On may 1st, 2009, Maine Governor John Baldacci signed a bill legalizing same sex marriage, jumping ahead of New Hampshire. On April 29th New Hampshire's Senate passed a similar bill, only needing the finalizing signature of Governor John Lynch to make it a law.

This makes five states that currently support legal gay marriage: Iowa, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, and Maine.

The nature versus nurture debate rages on but a new study of
transsexuals has shown genetics plays a key role in determining our
sense of gender.

In the largest genetic study of its kind, 112 male-to-female
transsexuals took part in a study involving several Melbourne research
bodies and the University of California, Los Angeles.
Researchers measured the variation in the androgen receptor gene, which
is involved in the functioning of the sex hormone
testosterone.

DNA samples from the transsexuals were compared with the samples from
250 typical men.

Researchers discovered the transsexuals were more likely than
non-transsexuals to have a longer form of the gene.
"We think these genetic differences might reduce testosterone action and
under-masculinise the brain during foetal development,"
Prince Henry's Institute researcher Lauren Hare said.
Lead researcher, Associate Professor Vincent Harley, head of molecular
genetics at Prince Henry's Institute, said there had long been
debate about the causes of transsexuality.

"There is a social stigma that transsexualism is simply a lifestyle
choice. However, our findings support a biological basis of how
gender identity develops," he said.
He said researchers were recruiting transsexual people for another study
and hoped to double the sample size and examine other genes.

Assoc Prof Harley said it was important to replicate the findings in
other populations.
Researcher Trudy Kennedy, director of the Monash Gender Dysphoria
Clinic, said the study supported other evidence that genetics and
brain gender were important in transsexuality.
"This is something that people are born with and it's certainly not a
lifestyle choice as some have suggested," she said.
Julie Peters, a transgender person, said she knew from as young as three
or four years old she did not fit into being a boy.

"I have always had the personality of a girl, I suppose is the way I
perceive it and even from a very young age, three or four, I was
really mad at people for making me a boy," she told AAP.
"I personally think it (gender) is a combination of both (nature and
nurture).

"You are born with a predisposition to have a certain personality and
then depending on the culture you are brought up in your personal
situation it becomes active in a particular way."
The study research was jointly funded by the National Health and Medical
Research Council and the US National Institutes of Health.

Changes to the Announcements Policy, and a NEW! Beginners Corner!

One of SAS/M's stated purpose is to support the community by
supporting other groups. Through it's web presence, newsletter, and
munch announcements, SAS/M seeks to inform it's membership of all the
other events, groups, and resources that are available to them in San
Antonio and the region. Most recently, the board of SAS/M has
created a beginner's corner --- a portable A frame for displaying
flyers and pamphlets about local groups and businesses. New munch
visitors can visit the portable kiosk and learn about other
opportunities for kink in the River City. We encourage all local
groups to send or bring us their literature so that we can make it
available for reading and retrieving at our munches.

In related news, the Board of SAS/M is trying to make the announcement
period at our munches more substantial and faster. Visitors have
commented that the announcements drag a bit and that they cover
information that is freely available in our newsletter and off links
on our web site. The majority of our munch attendees who attend
regularly are already familiar with the groups and resources
available. So in effort to make the announcement more substantial,
informative, and pleasant we will be trying a new policy: We ask that
other groups send us a short description of their group, their
purpose, their regular meeting times for reoccurring activities, and
contact information. We ask that the information fit on one side of
a 3 x 5 index card. The SAS/M officer presenting the announcements
will read from the card. If there are representatives from the group
present, we'll point them out for the benefit of people who want to
learn more.

Exceptions will be made for annual or semiannual events such as the
GWNN Birthday Bash. Representatives from the group are welcome make
their own prepared announcement about non-reoccurring activities.

Meet and Beat, and Players Mixer

At the next party, we will be having our first annual Meet and beat, which is basically a way for those wishing to play with others to freely advertise that fact. It can be very hard to approach someone and ask if they wish to play. Plus, maybe they are not a bottom to your matching top? Who knows?

So we will be handing out badges to hang from your person, that advertise whether you are a TOP or a BOTTOM, and that you wish to play. These will be considered an open invitation to be approached about playing. I would love to see new people get up there and give us new and inspiring scenes.

These cards will also be available at the June Munch, with the same idea in mind. Gives you time to look around, talk without pressure, and maybe do some negotiating or planning.

Oh... My... Gosh! If you missed the last munch then you missed a DOOZIE! Draco brought a new recipe he was trying, steak kabobs with his patented Jack Daniels sauce to share with everyone. Arch Angel did a demonstration of the most amazing subtle and sensual touch you can use in public. Charles and Susan brought a slide show with LOTS of pics from South Plains Leather Fest including some of the craziest fashions you've ever seen! It was AWESOME!!

Okay, well, maybe not all of that is true. Maybe the last munch was a bit lightly attended. But those of us who came, aHEM, er, *showed up*, had a great time and missed y'all. May's munch should be fun and hopefully we will roll out some new ideas and a new "thing" (being mysterious on purpose here. Show up if you want to see it) that will just be oh-so-cool.

We have a party coming up in June that I want to be extra special. We are dimming some of the lights, and changing others, and trying to move some stuff around. We have been listening to what people are saying, and are trying real hard to make these parties a place everyone wants to come to. This is -your- SAS/M. If you have other thoughts about any part of it, please talk to me, or any Board member, online or in person.

I have a few thoughts about how to make the next party a little extra special, but I would really like some help and/or ideas from you on other things to do, this party or future ones. My main idea this time is a food change (maybe), and thus the "help" part. Other ideas are MOST WANTED as well.

We have been discussing putting together a lending library. We would like donations of BDSM style books, preferably something you don't mind having disappear.

Also as per our last munch announcement, we are examining alternative locations for play parties and munches. No, we're not moving anywhere right now, but options are always a good thing. And maybe someone can find some great place, or cheaper place, or better location, or whatever.

If you know of anyplace that might be suitable, please email us with info. The criteria are actually a bit harder than you might think: are you up for a challenge? Here they are.

1) Criteria for Munch Locations include:
a) Low to Moderate Prices
b) Private Dinning Room
c) Buffet or cafeteria style (No intrusive/expensive wait staff.)
d) Convenient location
e) good food

2) Criteria for Party Locations include:
a) Willingness to rent to us after being told WIITWD
b) Privacy / Isolation
c) Attached smoking area
d) Private rest rooms
e) Good parking
f) Easy access for Austinites would be a plus

On occasion, Daddy has access to a friend's ranch. It is a beautiful, secluded area with a creek, pond, large trees and brush concealing it from neighbors and the highway that passes next to it. We play there often and I love being there. Usually Daddy would wrap a rope around my wrists and string me up from a large branch on a tree by the pond then proceed to have his wicked way with me. However, the wait isn't long. I hear him come back into the house and he leads me outside. Stumbling, I'm taken across the bridge to the other side of the creek and to the pond. He then tells me to take off my clothes and lay down on a blanket. I can feel him wrapping towels around my ankles and then winding rope around them and binding them securely. He tells me not to move around or struggle and to just relax. I take deep breaths and wait for what is next. I hear him walk away from me and then the sound of him getting into his truck and starting the engine. Is he leaving me again? Am I to lie naked in the woods, feet bound and unable to go anywhere? Very slowly the rope around my ankles is tightening and my ankles are being lifted. Higher and higher they go. Oh My Gosh!! I'm being lifted upside down by my ankles! I'm now completely off the ground and dangling in the air. I can touch the ground with my fingertips and stop myself from twisting in a circle. He gets out and checks everything to make sure I'm secure and then gets back into his truck to adjust my height. I'm not sure why my exact height off the ground is critical but I learn the reason for it later.

After setting the emergency brake and turning the engine off Daddy comes back to me and asks if I'm okay and whether or not I'm in any distress. He checks my feet to make sure the circulation isn't cut off. He then proceeds to exquisitely torture me with a flogger and with his hands. He alternates pain and pleasure. The pain soon turns into pleasure and I am wrapped in a world of sensation. I literally can not distinguish up from down. My world is his hands and his flogger. Then he stops.

From Romania: Man Superglues condom on Penis to Save on Sex!

A Romanian man needed some help after his ‘great idea’ started to feel not so great. He had superglued his condom to his penis.

The 43-year-old father-of-five told doctors he and his wife didn’t want any more children. Their obvious solution was to start using condoms, but the condoms Nicolae Popovici’s wife bought were a bit ‘roomy’.

The couples solution for this small problem was not to buy new condoms that did fit, but to make the big ones fit. One way or another.

They used superglue to glue the condom to the man’s penis. This did not only solve the size-issue, but they could also re-use the condoms, so they thought.

After sex, the couple realised the condom was stuck and wouldn’t come off. After trying everything they could think off (and these people are resourceful as you may have noticed) Nicolae went to the local medical clinic for help.

One of the nurses said: “He even said that he thought the condom could be used several times and that he wanted it stuck on his penis so he could use it again later. We barely managed to remove it in the end.”

And the children should not lead them....

Maury County woman charged with bondage death of husband

COLUMBIA, Tenn. (AP) - A Maury County woman has been charged with reckless homicide for what her attorney says was the accidental asphyxiation of her husband after he consented to be bound and gagged.

According to the arrest warrant, 25-year-old Rebecca Bargy placed duct tape over James Bargy's mouth and eyes, put a ball gag in his mouth and then tied a bandage around his head, leaving only his nostrils showing.

She also tied his hands and legs behind his back. She then left him for 20 hours.

Authorities found the 29-year-old's body around 4 p.m. Saturday. Rebecca Bargy faces up to 12 years in prison if found guilty.

She has a bond hearing set for 8:30 a.m. Wednesday in Mt. Pleasant. She has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Chained man rescued from fire

CRYSTAL LAKE – A 55-year-old Crystal Lake man was found chained by the neck in the basement of a burning home Tuesday, police said.

After the man was rescued from the building, he told police that he had been confined in the basement of his own free will and was not a victim of a crime, Crystal Lake Police Deputy Chief Dennis Harris said.

“He’s not elaborating on the unusual circumstances,” Harris said. “We have some doubts about the veracity of his story. We are still investigating why he was where he was and is saying what he says.”

Police responded to a call regarding a structure fire at 1398 Dolo Rosa Vista at 7:51 a.m. Tuesday, Crystal Lake police said in a news release.

The first units to arrive met three adults outside the home who said that a man still was in the basement of the burning building.

Firefighters entered the home and found the man with the chain locked around his neck.

The other end of the chain was secured by a padlock to a structural post in the basement, police said.

The man was cut free and taken to a hospital, where he was treated for smoke inhalation and then released. The other three adults who had been in the home were treated at the scene and released, police said.

April is upon us with all the foolishness we can get up to. I for one plan to kick up my high heels and enjoy this warmer weather with a little outdoor bondage. I had planned a old tried-and-true topic for this newsletter, and with recent events I think it's all the more appropriate, even if a little over-done and over-spoken of. I'm talking about that word I love, "Community".

Really, what inspired me to write about it was the great outpouring of support I got from you all at the last munch concerning this newsletter. Me being the big strong Domme and all, I couldn't let you see the little tear in the corner of my eye from all your good words. BDSM has always been about helping each other, in so many ways. You guys really epitomize that, I think.

When someone in our community needs help, we rally 'round. I know how deeply you guys give, whether it be time, effort, or in some cases, your hard earned cash. I hope that never stops. I hope you all realize how deeply we are connected, and how much we need each other; from the tiniest little practitioner to some of the greatest, most generous, and helpful mentors like Tom and Jess. From the person you really don't know who smiles at you at the munch and gladdens your heart, or gives you a really cool play idea you just *have* to use, to the teachers and mentors who give so freely of their time and energy to help any who ask. When someone gives, we all benefit. When so many give, it can really make an amazing difference to one in need.

Spring for me is a joyous time, full of promise and renewal. The planet reforms itself. It forgives old scars, it brings new life, it bursts into joyous giving at every turn. Flowers, fruit, birdsong, warm breezes. This is what I wish for all of you: a newfound hope, a renewed vigor, a community of earth helping seed helping animal who in turn helps earth again. We truly are all connected. We truly are all one. Reach out to friend, neighbor, stranger; locally, in nearby cities, in other states. Forgive old wounds. Forge new ties. Help make "us" a stronger thing.

I don't understand: what exactly is a poly relationship?

For those of you who do not understand what a Poly household really is.

First off, it is NOT about group sex, though many believe that is all it is. Poly households are relationship based, not sexually based. The first recorded Poly relationship, which I am aware of, is in the Bible in the Book of Genesis. It says Enoch, the grand son of Adam and Eve, had 2-wives. In the 1960's we had communes, which also qualified as Poly relationships. Now we just call these types of relationships "poly households", which are made up of various combinations of more than two people. Simply put, one person is a single, two people are a couple and three or more people are poly. A Poly household may be made up of all men, all women, or a combination of men and women. A Poly household may involve group sex, sex with one person at a time, monogamy, or no sex at all. It's how each Poly household defines their relationships with one another.

Although a poly family can be very beneficial, meeting various needs of each individual, it can also be disastrous if those involved do not set it up properly. To this requires the following concepts to be in place and used wisely.

1. Jealousy and envy must not be allowed to exist in any form.
Jealousy is the belief that someone else has something or some one that belongs to you. The word jealousy is derived directly from the word fear of losing something or someone, which is illogical when it is usually the dominant personality that owns a sub/slave within this lifestyle, rather than the reverse. The reason for this anomaly is because people have not truly learned what their roles are, nor have they dealt with past triggers from their childhood and earlier life experiences that set us off inappropriately against our family members.

Envy is the desire for something or someone that someone else has. I have seen poly households destroyed because one of the members thought another household member was receiving more attention than they were. Of course the same is true of sibling rivalry, but that doesn’t stop us from having more than one child, nor does their rivalry cause the parents to cast one aside for being envious or jealous of their brother or sister. They simply work it out.

2. Communication, openness and honesty are imperative.
One of the most important ways to help eliminate jealousy or stop it cold in its tracks is having regular, if not daily family communication sessions to discuss areas of concern or our feelings one to the other without the fear of retaliation occurring. Of course another key to communication is the need for everyone to be open with their thoughts, fears, anxieties, and to be totally honest. In essence nothing within the family should ever be done in secret as this can be a seed of fear and the destruction of openness, or it can cause a deadly cancer within the family’s foundation.

3. All must learn to become a team.
This first means all within the household must know their place, their role and what is expected of themselves and of each other. Second it means all must learn and understand what it means to really share and care for one another within the household. When one chooses to care for another, it usually means they want the best for that person. When a team works together they become winners; when a team does not work together they become losers. Being a team requires compromise, and working together for everyone’s benefit rather than their own benefit.

I hope this gives a different perspective as well as an understanding of what a Poly household is and its relationship dynamics.

Well, the VD Party (that's Valentines Day, you sickos!) was a hit. Great attendance. If you missed it you missed a great one. Lots of stuff to bid on in the Silent Auction. Cane bundles went off great; I think we may need more of these next time! subjim's vest was fiercely battled over right at the end. The crystal handled flogger donated by ArchAngel was one of My favorites. I hope it got a happy home. Draco built a spanking bench that I think you may see up for auction at the next party- be sure to look for that.

The play was amazing! For us lucky voyeurs there was a flashy fire scene to ooh and ahh over; the cane bundles were put to good use; always a favorite of mine, a single tail cracking fiercely punctuated by "No Daddy No!"s; and a knife play scene demonstrated some of the stuff learned at a recent OKB teaching meeting.

One of the more controlling things a Dom(me) can do is use “breath play” on a submissive. The question is, should he/she? This brief article will point out a few of the obvious problems that breath play brings up, and offer information for you to make up your own mind about whether this is something you want in your repertoire.

Technically breath play is causing a partial or complete loss of consciousness due to the intentional deprivation of oxygen to the brain. (In adults, the practice of self or someone asphyxiation has another context, that is the experience of erotic arousal.)

There are subs who will tell you that it is a great experience. And that it heightens the bond with the Dom(me). And since the sub literally has put a life into your hands, indeed it is a powerful tool. I have a passage from a slave to her Master to illustrate one point of view………… It is really hard to describe what choking me does to me. The best I can do is to say that I relax into it. I don’t feel any panic or fear. You are my Master and I trust you completely. I don’t feel out of breath. That will usually cause me to panic to feel like I can’t breathe. I know that I have my life in your hands and that makes it even better. It gives me the chance to show you just how much I do trust you. The act of the choking is also a bonding act. It binds us more closely because of the trust I feel and the power that you feel in doing it. You know you could kill me and it gives you a rush, you know how much I am trusting you and it also makes you feel good to know that. It’s an act of love and trust on my part. I want to show you how much I love you and how far my submission will go for you. It gives me a rush to put my life into your hands and know that you will not abuse your power over me, that you love me enough and respect my trust enough not to push me beyond what is safe. What a beautiful thing!

This is clearly a powerful act for these two people. But the sub is wrong when she says “not to push me beyond what is safe”. Choking is not safe, Headlines tell of police officers killing civilians with choke holds. There have been studies of “The Choking Game” among teenagers in Canada and the United States. Many deaths result from this.

OK, the technique exists, and some of you will try it. Let me list some things to make it safer.

Take a course in CPR (and First Aid), information never hurts,
NEVER tie anything around the neck, use something that can be disengaged immediately, preferably your hands.
Consult medical data bout what you are doing, in effect, closing blood flow in the carotid artery
Do not choke, just squeeze gently but firmly. Lots of force hurts structures in the neck
NEVER do this technique to someone laying down, sitting down, or reclining
Always have the sub standing, preferably raised a bit on the toes. When the unconsciousness begins to take effect you can immediately feel the body’s muscles change. This is when to stop!
Never do this to someone who says “I don’t want to”, or uses anything resembling a safeword.
Discuss this with your partner, fully.

The effects of this technique can be fantastic. Or, it can result in death or brain injury. Ask yourself, is this worth the risk.

Be aware that I am not advocating this technique for anyone. But if you are around BDSM long enough you will encounter it, and people who use it. Your decision is to be responsible for the D/s or M/s relationship you are in, and the key word is responsible.
